“For the ideal that I hold dear to my heart , I will not regret a thousand depth to die.”
1. You may not be a natural leader Often, positions in the higher levels come with leadership responsibilities: you need to command and inspire your team and think of new directions to take your team in. No matter how you good you are at your current job, you will not qualify for the next level up if you are not comfortable being a leader. 高考 CET4 考研 TEM4 TEM8 TOEICcom·mand /kəˈmɑːnd/ /kəˈmænd/①(命令,指示[ I or T ] to give someone an order【例句】 She commanded us to leave. ②指挥;统帅;管辖[ I or T ] to control someone or something and tell them what to do【例句】He commands a platoon of 60. ③应得,值得[ T ] to deserve and get something good, such as attention, respect, or a lot of money【例句】She commands one of the highest fees per film in Hollywood. 2. You have not proven a higher level of skill If you do have the leadership qualities required for the next level up, you may not have found away to prove it. You should help your boss see what you are capable of by stepping up and offering to take up responsibilities from time to time when your boss needs help. ①step sth↔up 使增加;使上升;使加快 to increase the amount of an activity or the speed of a process in order to improve a situation 【例句】If he wants to win this election, he really needs to step it up. ②采取行动(帮助某人或负责某事)especially American English to agree to help someone or to be responsible for doing something【例句】 Residents will have to step up if they want to rid this area of crime. 3. You do not speak up much Even if you do have the leadership skills needed for a promotion and have proven yourself, it is possible that you have done it all without calling attention to yourself. Books on management often joke about how success in the workplace comes to those who take the trouble to look busy, whether or not they accomplish anything. You need to think about playing the part as well as looking the part. ①提请(某人)注意to ask people to pay attention to a particular subject or problem【例句】 May I call your attention to item seven on the agenda? ②引起(某人的)注意to make someone notice someone or something【例句】 I wanted to shout out to Zuijie, but I didn’t want to call attention to myself. 4. You have not been consistent In the workplace, you are only as good as the last item on your track record. If it has been a couple of weeks since your last success or if there have been a couple of recent slip-ups, your successes won't shine through. slip-up失误,疏忽a careless mistake【例句】We cannot afford another slip-up. 【近义表达】error,cock-up,foul-up☞slip up on (sth)出差错,疏忽,疏漏to make a mistake【例句】Zuijie had slipped up on the order. 5. You have not added to your resume recently If the last educational entry on your resume is from a decade ago, you are not doing everything you can to show that you are keeping up with the times. It is important to build upon your resume on a continuing basis. ①把某事物建立在某事物之上build something on something to base something on an idea or thing【例句】Our relationship is built on trust. ②以某事物为基础build on something to use your achievements as a base for further development【例句】The new plan will build on the success of the previous programme. 6. You have not been promoted in a whilePromotions go to those who have had promotions in the past. If you have stayed in the same position for a while, your boss may no longer think of you as the kind of person who gets promotions. To them, you are just a helpful, dependable person who is satisfied with them lot in life. de·pend·able /dɪˈpendəbl/adj.可信赖的;可靠的that can be relied on to do what you want or need【例句】She is loyal and totally dependable.
