I'm Cathy Magbanua. Currently, I'm a Training Specialist at Norwegian Cruise Line.(专职培训官,隶属HR,曾在南京给中国员工做过岗前培训)
I started working on board as a Youth Counselor in 2003. In 2005, I was promoted as Teen Director.
Later on, I transferred to Guest Services and become a Concierge, where I learned much about ship operations.
I always enjoy being of service to people and I'm thrilled that I am doing what I'm really passionate about which is helping and nurturing others to be better and reach for their dreams.
Because dreams do really come true.

I handle orientation, service training, as well as, management courses.
I assist team members with their career development.
They come to me if they would like to seek advice or guidance about policies, career advancement, cross-training, goal setting and the like.
I also oversee the position based training and the recognition process on board.

Our training programs equip our team members to provide the service that is expected of them.
For me, more than anything, I make sure to deliver a positive first impression from the moment they come on board and consistently provide excellent service to our crew.
How can they better understand welcoming our guests or attending to their needs than letting our team members experience our warm welcome, genuine smile, making them feel they are important to us and we are happy for them to be part of the family.
We promote a culture of safe and fun working environment with open communication and harmonious relationship amongst a diverse team.
It's up to us how to make it happen and being the front liners, we can either make or break an image by our actions.

I love it! It never ceases to amaze me how everything comes into play.
We are one big community in a floating world which is home for us for the next 4 to 8 months.
We learn to adapt and work together as a team despite our differences as the operation goes from day to day.
Together we face challenges, literal storms, failures, success, that we truly have become a family.
Not everything is perfect or beautiful but that what makes it more special and amazing.
At the end of your contract, you can be proud to say I've matured, I learned a lot and I survived the journey, and you look forward again to your next adventure.

Every day is a challenge.
I wish I can say working on board is easy but it never is.
You may feel homesick, seasick, stressed and a lot of discouragement.
I've come to the point that I wanted to give up, I cried a lot of tears but then you get to realize that hardship just passes by.
When it is over, you'd feel tougher you as an employee and as a person.
The advantages outweighs the disadvantages.
It is a fact that not all personalities can fit in this kind of environment.
However, once you find this way of life works for you on your first contract and you come back for another one, then it becomes an addiction because your heart will always lead you here.

Take advantage of whatever learning experience you can get on board and make the most out of it.
I know a lot of people pay huge amount of money to learn new skills for their career growth, but it is all up for grabs on the ship.
You get to practice, too, with the experts in that field.
Let's say you want to learn Spanish, we offer you the program and even immersion.
Make friends and they will be happy share their knowledge.
You got talents, you can showcase them, too.
I can say this is a whole new world of opportunities. Overcome fear and allow yourself to grow and be the best you can be.

English is very important because it gives you a competitive advantage not just in the cruise line industry but also in all aspects of life.
Whether it is for studies, travel, employment, career advancement, international business or simply personality development, English can bridge you to a lot of opportunities.
I understand that this may be difficult for some who have not used this language as much but I have a good news for you.
I belong to a group of dedicated instructors who are passionate in helping individuals learn English.
You can find us 【可搜索微信小程序:春风外教】at www.cfsolutionsph.com. CF Solutions offer online services, summer camps and immersion.
I get the privilege to teach at summer camps during my vacation when I am not on board.
What's nice about this is that you get to comfortably practice with your friendly and patient teachers until you find yourself confident enough to speak the language.
CF Solutions offer free assessment and allow us to discuss how we can best assist you with your communication needs.

We all have been there.
I know it can be scary and difficult at first but if you have the willingness to learn, anything is possible.
Believe in yourself and allow others to assist you to enhance your skills.
Practice, practice, practice.
Don't be afraid to commit mistakes.
Remember, it's only a skill. You can acquire it by means of hard work and dedication.
A lot did it, so can you.
9
There's a lot in store for you out there.
Know what you want for yourself, for your future.
It really starts from your own interest.
If you decide to pursue a career on the ship, prepare yourself for challenging adventures, invest and learn necessary skills and we look forward to seeing you on Norwegian Cruise Lines.
