WCS China
∣ Director of Policy ∣
机构介绍
WCS China Program Overview
WCS China's mission is the conservation of China's wildlife and its intact landscapes through dedicated science-based, long-term, and landscape-level conservation, particularly the vast expanses of the Changtang /Qinghai plateau and the forested habitats of the Wandashan and Changbaishan Mountain area in Hunchun and Jilin Provinces. We work at the technical and policy levels to combat illegal trade of endangered species, as well as reduce the likelihood of future zoonotic pathogen outbreaks, reduce pressures on global biodiversity and safeguard livelihoods and food security of local communities and Indigenous Peoples. We work with governments, communities, NGO-s, and industry to maintain biodiversity, ensure landscape connectivity, and contribute to sustainable management of resources.
Policy Initiative in China
The world is facing three major crises today: the loss of biodiversity, climate change, and the pandemic. They are all interrelated, with many of the same causes and solutions, and we need to recognize these synergies and find win-win solutions. The current global COVID-19 crisis urges Government to take sustained actions to significantly reduce the likelihood of future zoonotic pathogen outbreaks, reduce pressures on global biodiversity and safeguard livelihoods and food security of local communities and Indigenous Peoples. Under the background of ecological civilization, the Government of China has made significant policy reform with regard to hunting, trade, transportation, and consumption of all terrestrial wild animals whether captive-bred or wild caught, as well as set an ambitious and admirable agenda for the post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework. In order to progress and support implementation of these critical policy reforms and post-2020 agenda, WCS China seeks to develop a policy initiative to leverage these high-level commitments through a collaborative, dynamic, and transdisciplinary approach—working across sectors at the local, regional, national, and global levels.
