The part of dance video | 李宣雨 Li Xuanyu
Everyone is staying in a depressive atmosphere since the beginning of 2020, a battle from inside body started to making a statement to the outside environment. Once a moment, I think the world will be in chaos under this depress time, but luckily everything is going well now. We are focusing on thinking of the nature of creation and a new way to do the dance practice while this quarantine time. We believe this is very important to young art creator and us - Unique Body Space.2020 will be an unforgettable year in human history. Not only the exhibition The Swiftness of Feeling and Thinking has been postponed, but also our work has been delayed. The photography was planed to print and frame after the Chinese new year, however they are still waiting for the studio open. The discussion of how to display our video work and which pictures need to show with it is still on going, since we cannot go to the gallery at the moment. Details of the cooperation between our dance programme with a fashion design programme are still unsure. The date of our talk and sorcery dance performance will be clear until we know when will be the opening of the exhibition. We never had this kind of strong desire to meet each other in the past. Unique body spaceUnique Body Space’s art practice has been always related to dance performances. We did various types of performances in different art platforms, however, these performances were mainly focus on studying the movements of body. People saying performance art need to be in a physical place, at this difficult time, we might cannot do anything about it. Actually, this is not quite right, art creators can always find a way to present their creation. Recently, there is a very interesting programme, Dancing in the inches, which developed by the platform of young dancers. With this programme, dancers are completing their missions by creating arts in their daily life. At this moment, the members of Unique Body Space are in different areas. We often discuss our ideas and share our feeling through online platform, and we cherish this online moments. The other day, artist Xuanyu told me about her photography works, “everyone has their own way to seeing and understanding artworks, there is no such an universal rule for them to follow. Sometimes I designed some movements in my artworks, like how bodies moves and stops, but somehow I can’t explain the reason why I designed like this, I just felt that I knew the movements and I am having connections with them.” Unique body spaceBack to real life, our bodies are kind of tied up because of the novel coronavirus outbreak, and we are repeating the same movements every day. But we think these movements can be our inspirations for creating new body language. We probably will organise an performance to represent this difficult moments. Life is hard and creating barriers, our inner creative thoughts, however, still can find a way to get over them. Some people think art can do nothing when facing with a disaster, and it cannot help people to overcome the disaster, or to lead people to have a direct fight with virus. Yet in our view, art could make people who have mental problem feel better in some way, also it could be a way to record histories, to remind people donot forget the tragedies and respect the nature and lives.
This “battle” with the novel coronavirus seems like getting to dawn, we are looking forward to see “the spring”, and we want to thank the medical workers who really saw themselves as on the front line of protecting the rest of china and the world.
