After the most memorable night of his career to date, Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has been enjoying some downtime to reflect on winning the Champions League.

The Liverpool midfielder lifted the European Cup in Madrid on Saturday night after a 2-0 victory over Tottenham, thanks to goals from Mohamed Salah and Divock Origi.

Henderson's men returned to Liverpool on Sunday for an open-top bus parade through the city where at least 500,000 supporters lined the streets to celebrate.

On Monday, Henderson was spotted by himself in Wilmslow, Cheshire, having some lunch. The Reds captain stuck to water after a boozy couple of days celebrating the club's sixth European Cup.

Pictured in black joggers, white shirt, yellow hoodie and silver sunglasses, the 28-year-old looked in a serene state as he relaxed by himself.

Speaking after the match in Spain on Saturday night, Henderson said his Liverpool squad had been inspired to go one better after losing the final in 2018 to Real Madrid.

'I think we would have regretted it if we didn't talk about our experiences,' Henderson said.

'I felt it was important to speak as a group before the final, it was an important conversation. A few of us said a few things. Hopefully it helped.

The 28-year-old captained the Reds to their sixth European Cup on Saturday night

'I just said things about the game really, what we could experience against Tottenham and how we could deal with those situations. We could then put the experiences we have been through in the past to good use.

'We have come a long way as a team and we have had so many knock-backs and to finally get over the line it is an amazing feeling. It is what we will remember for ever. It's so special.' 

Henderson joined the ranks of Emlyn Hughes, Graeme Souness and Steven Gerrard in lifting the European Cup for the club.

But at the moment he insists has not thought how significant it is to have matched those greats.

The trophy was Liverpool's first under Klopp and Henderson said it was 'so special'

'Probably it will be after I finish football, but there is still a long way to go,' he added.

'I am 28, I want to achieve a lot, keep improving as a player, I want the team to keep improving, I want to win more, that is all my focus is on now.

'That's the idea, we hope this can give us a lot of confidence. The big trophies, the big nights.

'I want to enjoy this moment but also when we come back pre-season we will be focused on looking in the future.'
