Hand weaving is an ancient craft practiced for generations in central and southern Tibet Autonomous Region. Traditional colors and hand weaving techniques combine to create vibrant clothes in this region.
This winter activity, which takes place as farming and herding slowed in the colder months, is now a local intangible cultural heritage.
Each line in the weaving process is done by hand on the loom, meaning each piece is unique, and it can take a weaver three days to finish making a pair of leg wraps.
Local Lhopa weavers dye the knitted threads with plant pigment and then turn them into clothes, scarfs and handbags. Local girls will eventually wear these pieces during festivals and celebrations.
In Lhopa, this business is one of the biggest sources of income for every family.
