Customers are mixed about the connectivity of the vdo devices. Some mention that it's a truly wireless security camera that connects via WiFi to the local "hub" which can be, and greatly improve connectivity issues. However, others say that the app is unresponsive and the sync module loses WiFi connection. The WiFi Hub just wouldn't pair to the app, no matter how many times they unplugged and reset the device.

It's a good wireless camera system in general. Not the best cameras out there but I say pretty good for being completely wireless at the price your paying. I got the 2 pack and here is my take on these. Setting up is so quick and easy my 12 yr old son can do it. The first thing I noticed that let me down when setting up is the fact that these only connect to 2.4G wifi (later found out from Blink that 2.4g offers longer range connection than 5g). I have on average 180 Mbps download and 13 Mbps upload internet speeds in home with 5G connection. The video quality is good, at 720p, it's not the best but it's clear enough. The video live streaming is ok. Not great. The video feed and audio FREQUENTLY freezes even with the camera placed a couple feet from the sync module, both with full signal strength. I may be wrong but I can imagine the feed being way smoother if it was able to connect to faster wifi speeds with 5G. When watching live video feed, you only get 20 seconds of continuous viewing unless you keep pressing the "continue?" button that pops up every 15 seconds. This is understandable to save battery life but also annoying. The audio works fairly well (one way only). The night/dark room viewing works pretty good, it will give clear and bright enough picture to see two entire rooms (living + kitchen in tandem setup) in practically complete darkness. However, the "night vision" mode uses a VERY bright LED like a flashlight (located right below the camera lense) when the camera is on (live or motion recording). It's intention was probably also used as an intruder deterent. Motion sensor does NOT work through windows (mine are dual pane glass). There is roughly around a 5 second delay in live video syncing when it's running smoothly. So if you wave your hand in camera it shows up on screen around 5 seconds later, if the feed isn't freezing. When opening the app and selecting live feed, it takes around 6 seconds for the live streaming to kick in. As soon as the camera starts recording from motion or viewing live, a bright blue LED turns on (right of the motion sensor). If you happen to loose power or unplug to move the sync module, it will reconnect to the wifi in around a minute or two. The temperature reading is a pretty cool feature and would be even cooler if these worked with our Nest thermostat to double as room temp sensors and tracking like the Ecobee. There are a few features I wish this did have. Better live streaming and able to connect to 5G wifi. Option to adjust how long live video feed can be viewed before stopping. Two way talk. 1080p video. Able to zoom in/out. Connect with Nest or other smart tstats. Able to turn off blue LED. Motion detection to work through windows. Privacy setting for when your home. Maybe add less visible night vision LEDs and be able to choose to use the brighter night LED for an intruder deterent if preferred. All in all, it's a good system for the price. If I had to choose one thing or the first thing for Blink to improve on, is for smoother live viewing and be able to watch continuos if we choose without having to press continue every 15 seconds.UPDATE: I just bought the Canary Flex and am testing it to see which I prefer more. Obviously the Canary is more expensive. You get one cam instead of two for the price. I'm not going to get into the Canary much in this review but wanted to point out my 2.4g vs 5g wifi connection findings. I took both cameras outside on my porch no more than two feet outside my porch window on a ledge and the Canary lost connection/went offline (connected to 5g) while the Blink was working completely fine (connected to 2.4g). As for picture, the blink camera has a slightly less viewing angle and seems more "zoomed" in than the Canary. Not a bad thing unless you need the most viewing coverage you can get. I found the Blink (6 seconds) to connect way faster to live viewing than the Canary (15 seconds). Huge difference if your impatient. The Blink also re-connects to the wifi way faster if the cams go offline. Blinks app very simple and less "fancy" than Canary's app but then again Canary offers more than Blink and costs more.I’ve currently been using the Yi 1080p camera (although needs to be plugged into power) I would highly recommend looking into it. $60 and it has better quality video, motion detection WORKS through windows and a great app with lots of features and it’s free using a micro SD card.**pictures attached are comparisons (Blink is not labeled on screen, Canary and Yi is labeled) and the Blink in night/dark room mode.
My impression of the Blink after about a week. 1. Setup was simple, but I did have to puzzle through a couple of glitches. The Sync Module had a red light and I needed to reset it (stick pin into reset hole). When entering the camera identifier number into the app, I had to press each key slowly and deliberately (not sure if that was the app or iOS). Still, setup only took 20 minutes. 2. Physical placement of the cameras is easy, but some locations do work better than others. Look for an eye level location; it is tempting to hide the camera down low like a little mouse, or up high like a commercial security camera, but faces will be clearest if the face is looking directly at the camera and as close as possible. Avoid pointing the camera at a brightly lit window, if you wish a person standing in front of that window to be more than a silhouette. Choose a location that will be reasonably well illuminated, as the cameras lack night vision; the built-in light will attract attention, I turned it off. The cameras come with an adjustable mount that you can stick or screw to a surface, e.g. a doorway or wall. The lens only covers 110 degrees, so it isn't particularly wide angle. If you want to conceal the cameras, the flat shape makes it easy. The blue "recording" light needs to be covered with tape, if you don't want to warn burglars that they are being recorded. 3. The Sync Module should be within good radio range of your Wi-Fi access point and the various cameras. Give this some thought, because when you unplug the module to move it, you have to redo the wireless connections again. 4. The system works well, for what it is meant to do, which is to watch for motion, record short clips when it sees motion, and alert you. It is not designed to record long clips (max 10 seconds), or to let you play security officer and watch fluid full motion live video of your house (live video is slow and more like a time lapse), or to let you talk to your cats or people knocking on your door (no two way video). To get small cameras, low price, and long battery life, the system's ambitions have been limited. 5. So far, my cameras have been indoors. I'll experiment with mounting a couple outside. The cameras are cheap enough ($70 each) that I can use four or seven to cover the whole house and garage.
So far, I'm pleased and will be ordering several more cameras.
Edit: after a few weeks, I can confirm these cameras work well. My camera at the front door was alerting at passing cars and waving leaves, so I turned the sensitivity down and now it only alerts when someone is actually at the door. The cameras inside don't seem to be alerting to the cat, but do alert to people walking into the house. The video clips are good enough, if there is a light on in the room. If it is a dark room, you can set the camera to shine a light, but of course that makes the camera very obvious.
The cameras are easily concealed, I simply took some artsy postcards, cut a 1/4" hole for the camera and a 1/2" hole for the motion detector, and used double sided tape to fasten the card to the face of the camera. Not going to fool the CIA, but good enough.
The cameras have a blue LED that shines when they are filming, this is an intentional part of the design so that you can't use them to secretly spy on the babysitter. The blue glow is still faintly visible despite my clever postcard disguise, not enough that a hurrying burglar would notice, but you still can't use them as spycams, people would eventually notice.
Blink tells me they are working on enhancements, like geofencing (arm cameras when you, our rather your smartphone, leaves the house). There is also supposed to be an audible alarm unit coming.
I'm very pleased with these cameras. They don't try to do everything, and they are good at what they do. I'm going to order a couple more, for the garage and for a side entrance.
I ordered the two camera unit - I'm of average computer literacy but certainly not advanced. I was a little worried about how the set up would go or if it would be a pain. I had both set up in about 15 minutes. It's as simple as downloading the app, plugging in the receiver, putting batteries in the units (included), and then typing in your wifi password and the camera serial numbers. done!
It took me longer to play around with where I wanted to put them them (just because it was fun) than the entire set up process did. I know it says not to put them outside, however, I have both of them in protected areas and I noticed a lot of reviewers did this as well. One is under my front porch and one is under the back patio. There is little to no chance of rain or direct sunlight getting on them. The pictures are crystal clear, even at night. They are also super sensitive and far reaching. I had to turn my front door sensitivity down because it was capturing the cars go by in the street (even though my front porch is set back and the camera is pointed somewhat downwards). You can do all of this remotely - I just changed the sensitivity setting from my desk at work. I also just watched UPS deliver a pair of shoes.
So far I've only had the cameras for a week. They capture large movements without triggering every time a stray cat goes by. Audio is crystal clear too. I'll update as time goes on and let you know how they do in the hot Texas summer. However, I do plan to upgrade to the outdoor version as soon as those come along. I feel the price was worth it even if I just use them for 6 months before I upgrade. The prices that the alarm companies were charging (plus an extra $10 or $20 per month to monitor them) were outrageous, plus they were requiring I also put one inside my house that could be monitored by the alarm company - uh, no thank you.
Update 12/7/16: I have had these outdoors for three weeks now. They have gone through 90 degree weather, 36 degree weather, and three severe thunderstorms (nothing like Texas weather). Yesterday, the one that I had perched in the rafters of my patio cover actually fell 8 feet down onto the rocks below it. My fault for not screwing it down to anything. Yep, I got a motion alert and a view of it face down in the rocks. When I got home from work I expected to walk up to a busted camera that was no longer usable. Nope. The battery cover was slightly open and that's it. I made sure the batteries were in place, put the cover back on, and this time I firmly attached it with the screw provided. Still works! So much for it not being an outdoor camera. I do make sure it's out of the elements and under a covered area but it's definitely outdoors.
For those reviewers complaining that clip length is only 10 seconds - that's the default. You can go in and change it to whatever you want. Even 60 seconds. I highly recommend these.
Update 11/22/2017: I have had these cameras one year now and I have also added an outdoor cam. I still have not had to replace the batteries even though the cameras are set off multiple times each day, and I have had no issues with any of the three (including the indoor cameras that are actually outdoors on my front and back patios). The one time I thought I was having an issue I emailed support and they were quick to respond with some helpful tips. It turns out that it was a cable company issue and my wifi equipment was on it's last leg. After two different visits from the cable guy I finally got a new box and the cameras work great again. If your cameras are disconnecting, make sure your router doesn't need replacing. I was told my router was fine until I insisted on a second visit and a new router after my wifi kept dropping. Turns out it was absolutely a router issue.
