THE Shenzhen Center of China Good Design, a design award organized by the Innovation Design Alliance of China (IDAC), was inaugurated at the Shenzhen Industrial Museum in Futian District on Friday. The winning works of China Good Design will be exhibited at the center until next February.

According to Zhang Yanmin, vice president of IDAC, the exhibition center is open to the public for free with the aim of promoting innovative designs in Shenzhen and soliciting more professional talents for the design industry.

The winning works of the Championship for Innovative Design, a design award organized for college students by the Shenzhen Institute for Innovative Design (SIID), will also be showcased at the center.

Under the theme of “Healthy Lifestyle,” this year’s competition received over 2,000 entries from college students across the country. An award ceremony was held at the Shenzhen Industrial Museum on Friday with 34 contestants being offered top prizes.

Jiao Lihua, vice president of SIID, said the award is aimed at helping students turn their creative ideas into market-oriented products. According to him, SIID has chosen several winning works, improved the design and turned them into products that are ready to be put on the market.

For instance, a conceptual shared refrigerator with many separate freezers was designed by a student who won the award last year. SIID adopted the idea and made a shared refrigerator that could be used in workplaces so staff could store different kinds of food, beverages or medicine in separate freezers, according to Jiao.

“Students will be offered a sum of money and an opportunity to participate in the design of the products as paid interns at SIID if their idea is chosen,” he said. “If they do a good job during the internship, they will be hired by SIID.”
