The art of GPS: Secret corpse flights, pizza boy delivery routes and the daily commute revealed in never-before-seen side of America

Extraordinary pictures show America as it has never been seen before.

These stunning CGI images reveal what the nation looks like from the skies, and how its transport and communication infrastructures work to power the vast nation on a daily basis.

Everything from the routes taken by Manhattan pizza delivery drivers on a Friday night to Domino's Pizza truck movement across the country are replicated in breathtaking detail.

Way of the dead: These lines show the unpublicised transportation of dead bodies, some clearly being repatriated to their home states from the U.S.'s retirement mecca state of Florida

Tracking: The route of a family-run combine harvesting business as they zig zag across the U.S. (left), and the U.S. electricity network laid bare (right)

Snack time: GPS trails reveal the routes taken by cycling pizza delivery riders on one Friday night in Manhattan. Each rider's shift lasts eight to nine hours, in which time they can deliver between 30 and 40 pizzas all over the city

There are also illustrations of New York's multi-layered morning rush-hour commute - with GPS trackers showing the combined ferries, rail and bus services that criss-cross the city.

The trail of flights carrying at least one passenger in the cargo hold - showing  the transportation of dead bodies - is also revealed.

And it clearly shows many deceased retirees being repatriated to their home states from the U.S. retirement mecca state of Florida.

Using the latest satellite technology and innovations in aerial photography, the pictures will be shown for the first time on PBS show 'America Revealed'.

Population: With a population of over 312million people and covering 3.79million square miles, the United States is the world's third largest country by both population and land area

Up in the air: Flight data for the 50,000 planes that carry 2million passengers daily across the U.S., shows how airways connect every corner of the country. The major airport hubs are clearly visible

Presenter Yul Kwon jumps out of aeroplanes, climbs up energy towers, accompanies a farmer on a crop harvest and rides with cabbies to give a surprising view of how an incredibly vast and complex country like America actually works.

Richard Kingsbury, PBS UK's general manager, said: 'This fantastic mini-series uses the latest technology to produce spectacular visuals of the way America works.

Time to work: New York's multi-layered morning rush hour detailed by the combined pathways ferries (orange dots), commuter rail services, (green purple and red) and the bus services (blue) that criss-cross the city picking out its famous grid pattern

Fuzzy: A visual representation of the nation’s wind resource (left), where thousands of high-tech sensorsproduce invaluable data to help locate wind powered electricity

Fast food: Truck movements supplying Domino's Pizza network, which shows how pizza customers in Manhattan are fed ingredients supplied via a supply hub in Connecticut. That hub is in turn supplied Pizza dough, peppers, mushrooms and tomatoes by fleets of satellite tracked, refrigerated trucks

'From the migration of salmon to the journeys of pizza deliveries, the series is packed with new ways of looking at a familiar country that will fascinate audiences on both sides of the Atlantic.'

Nick Catliff, executive producer, added: 'In this show we've taken the aerial photography, CGI and data visualisation techniques that we developed for the BBC’s 'Britain from Above' to a whole new level.
